What is a POI (point-of-interest)?

A point-of-interest is a location on a (digital) map. Besides x and y coordinates, it may contain other information about the location like a name, address, phone number etc. that can enable a user to make a buying or other type of decision/action.

Why does MyPoi World recommend that I register my product?

Registering allows you to automatically receive content updates of the product that you registered. After initial installation of your MyPoi product, updates will happen automatically once you connect your personal navigation device to your PC. At that time the latest information will be downloaded from our server onto your device.
How do I register a MyPoi product?

During the installation of a MyPoi product a registration screen will appear prompting you to enter a valid e-mail address and a password (of your choice). After you complete this form and click OK, an e-mail with an activation link will be sent to you. Once you click on this activation link you will be registered for updates for the specific product as outlined on the packaging or product sheet of the product.
How often can I request updates?

Updates happen automatically once you connect your personal navigation system to your PC and new data is available on our server for your MyPoi product. There is no limit to the number of times you can update and you can preset the frequency in the program itself by clicking on the Option button in the main program screen. Updates are available for a certain time only as specified on the package of the MyPoi product that you purchased. There is a time limit to updates as specified with the purchase of your product. Most MyPoi products come with a year long updates or updates until the next version of the product. Check the product sheet on the website or the product packaging for details.
The MyPoi help file(s) do not correctly reflect the menu screens on my navigation device.

MyPoi World aims to provide as much information within its help files related to the setup and operation of the supported navigation devices. Deviations are possible as not all navigation systems of a certain brand and type have a common menu structure, or their menu structure can change over time with software updates from the navigation manufacturers. If this is the case for your device, we recommend that you consult the manual of your navigation device for instructions or contact our helpdesk (click here to view instructions on how to go about this).
While installing a MyPoi product I am requested to register but the program does not recognize my e-mail address and password.

During installation of a MyPoi product the following screen will appear:

Most likely you ticked the “I am already registered” box and subsequently filled out the e-mail address and password that you entered during your registration on the MyPoi website. The website and product registration are not linked as some of our customers buy our product as a gift for others. You need to re-enter your e-mail address and chosen password in this screen to enable updates for your MyPoi product.
My navigation system is not listed on the box of your product but it is listed in the product information section on your website. Is it supported or not?

Our website has the list with the most up-to-date supported navigation systems. New navigation systems enter the market frequently so the types listed on the box and the website may differ. Two options are possible in this case: (1) your system is supported and you can check this in our FAQ section for the particular product as well or (2) your product is supported after you downloaded a patch for your product from our update section on the support website.

When I receive speed camera updates only the group that I have selected is updated with the new information, is this how my MyPoi Speed Cams product should behave?

Yes, only the selected group is updated with the new information as updating all the groups with this information can take quite a long time. In case you wish to also update other groups, you need to select them one by one and press the Update button in the lower right corner of the main MyPoi product program screen.
During installation I get a message “Fatal Error”

In case you will encounter the next screen after having clicked “Next” during installation of a MyPoi product:

Then a Windows’ function has not correctly been installed/registered. This fatal error message can only occur during a MyPoi product installation on a PC running the Windows Vista operating system. The solution to this problem is to activate the Windows Vista vbscript.dll: - Close all programs and windows including the “Fatal Error” window
- Open the Windows’ start menu by clicking on the large round Windows icon in the lower left of your screen
- Type in ‘command’ in the search field
- In the start menu a item labeled “Command Prompt” will appear
- Click on this prompt with you right mouse button
- Select from the list that will appear “XXX as administrator”
- Confirm this instruction in case you are prompted
- A Dos prompt “>_” will appear in a black window Type: regsvr32 vbscript.dll

You can now close this window, as well as the DOS prompt window and restart the installation of your MyPoi product by clicking twice on your CD-ROM or DVD drive icon with the MyPoi product disk inserted (boxed product) or by clicking twice on the.exe file (MyPoi download product).
I do not want to see the MyPoi product overlays on the map of my navigation device, what do I need to do to disable them?

By selecting “None” in the MyPoi Overlay section in the main screen of the MyPoi program will you disable the loading of overlays with the other content (POI) information onto your navigation device. After loading you can still navigate to or be warned for the content (POIs) you loaded but no overlay will be visible on the map.

How do I install a MyPoi product?

CD-ROM installation: Put the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of your PC. The installation program will automatically start and you will be prompted on the screen through the installation procedure.
Download installation: Log on into your account on the MyPoi Website. Go to ‘My Downloads’ in ‘My Account’. Click on the disc icon to start the download and you will be guided through the installation procedure.
Do not forget to register yourself for the updates during the installation procedures!
Can I use the MyPoi products without an internet connection?

Yes, you can. However, no updates will be available to you without an internet connection.
I am unable to use the Remove or Update buttons on the MyPoi product main screen after installation of Garmin Poiloader. What do I need to do?

You need to exit/close the MyPoi product(s) and restart them again. This procedure will allow the MyPoi products to identify the Garmin Poiloader program.

Can I only install one voice at a time on my Garmin device?

Yes, it is only possible to load one navigation voice on your Garmin. By pressing ‘Remove voices’ the Garmin device will be restored to its original configuration.
When I load my Garmin with a MyPoi product running on Windows Vista, I sometimes get an error message from Poiloader. What should I do?

Garmin Poiloader is not yet compatible with Vista and as a result an error message might appear after you click on the Update button. Just click OK on this message and close the Poiloader program that will appear after you have clicked on OK. In most cases you will see also an OK in the MyPoi Status screen indicating that all POIs were loaded correctly onto your device.

Are the MyPoi products compatible with TomTom navigator 6 products?

Yes, they are compatible and will work with TomTom navigator 6 products.
How can I view the phone numbers that are loaded with the POIs onto the TomTom devices?
-
In the main menu select ‘Browse Map’ and this will open up the Map mode of the TomTom. By clicking on the icons of the various POIs you will now be able to view the phone number and other information related to this POI.
